Director of Development Needed!


Headwaters Relief is currently sourcing for a Director of Development in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We are currently seeking a Director of Development to be responsible for the organization’s fundraising activities. Headwaters Relief Organization provides mental health support, community outreach and education in addition to the clean-up and re-building to those who have experienced a natural disaster. Headwaters Relief is a non-profit organization that has served in response to natural disasters in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, Louisiana and recently in Haiti and New Jersey. Since 2005, we have inspired more than 1000 people to join in our various volunteer efforts.

The Director of Development will be responsible for the development and implementation of the organization’s fundraising activities which include:

-Implementing effective fundraising practices, systems and processes to meet the annual needs of the organization

-Developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies

– Relationship building with program officers, individual donors and other key influencers

– Grant writing

– Corporate gift solicitation

– Special event planning and coordination.

This position will also oversee and develop volunteer teams as needed.

Qualified candidates will have:

At least 2 years’ experience performing major gifts fundraising responsibilities, preferably in non-profits.

At least 2 years’ experience performing major gifts fundraising responsibilities, preferably in non-profits
Successful grant writing history
Bachelor’s degree in Fundraising or related field, preferred.
Advanced knowledge of principles in fundraising and experience in special events.
Extensive knowledge of principles, methods and practices in the fields of marketing and development.
Strong knowledge of MS Office programs, especially Word, Excel and Power Point.
Previous experience working with volunteers and volunteer database management
Ability to adapt quickly to unexpected changes, deadlines or business demands and to make sound business judgments independently and under pressure.
Ability to work long hours and erratic schedules as needed.
Solicits gifts of $25,000 and higher.

Typical duties include:
Manages relationships with approximately 75 prospective donors and will be expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these potential donors.

Works collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development staff and representatives to cultivate and solicit donors.

Meets one on one with prospective donors for the purpose of cultivation and gift solicitation.

Initiates contacts with potential leaderships and major gift donors.

Develops appropriate cultivation strategies including working with volunteers.

Moves potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.

Maintains stewardship contacts with donors, adheres to the highest ethical standards, demonstrates empathetic disposition and perseverance, reflects optimistic and positive attitude and conveys sensitivity to needs of the donors.
Ensures compliance with management policies, procedures and standard operating practices.
Develops short-term and long-term planning and goal setting.
