During the past year, Headwaters Relief Organization worked closely with Haiti’s Ministry of Education in revising When Haiti Shakes for national distribution in that country. The book, written by Headwaters volunteers and first brought to the country last year, helps children understand earthquakes and what to do should another one strike.
“The book is a starting point in opening up communications with children as well as adults. It teaches proactive responses to earthquakes while at the same time builds coping and resiliency techniques,” says Headwaters founder Rebecca Thomley.
Written in Haitian Creole, French, and English, the book will be distributed by our volunteers to libraries and summer camps this July. “We are honored and excited to be a part of this major initiative to help create a more prepared community for all.”
